My name is Melanie Faulhaber and I teach the parenting classes at school. I work for a program called Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) but my assignment as a teacher is to work here at Longfellow. I think this school is so unique with it being all parenting moms, project based and so many resources for our students. The staff here really has a heart for the students at our school and that makes it a great place to work.
I see my job here at school to support the students and where they are at being a parent. All the students come in with their own “story” about how they were raised and what kind of a parent they want to be. I really believe that parents are a child’s first teachers and that birth to five years is a really important time of development. I love watching my students enjoying their children and having fun with them, that is the best. I also love holding newborn babies and doing projects with my students. I try to make my class fun, but also teach my students some things too.
I live in Minneapolis with my husband, daughter and son. When I am not working I love to hang out with my friends, sew, read, garden and spend time outside. My family and I like to play games, watch movies and explore Minneapolis.
Some of my favorite things are pizza, raspberry lemonade, the book “To Kill A Mockingbird”, flowers, a fire in the fireplace, my hammock to relax in and a warm sunny day.
