Welcome

We are a community school for pregnant and parenting students and their children. We believe that education should be hands-on and relevant to real-life, college and career. We do so with a personalized school model that includes both blended-online and project-based learning.

School Based Clinic

Longfellow's school based clinic will continue to provide no-cost, confidential health education to Longfellow students during Distance Learning! Students can access the clinic by texting or calling Lisa Dornick at 612-599-7290. Some of our services (personal exams, testing, etc.) will be administered through appointment at the Longfellow clinic. All other services (counseling, general health questions, and relationship support) will be provided virutally.

Childcare

Childcare is available for the children of Longfellow students during school hours!

Our childcare staff has worked hard this summer to provide our students with a safe childcare environment for their children so that our students can focus on their schoolwork during the day.
If you have any questions about the childcare or enrollment, please contact Lisa Kemming: lisa.kemming@mpls.k12.mn.us

Mission

At Longfellow Alternative High School, we provide a personalized learning environment for students to complete their high school education and build a strong future through an emphasis on attendance, academic achievement, and positive relationships. By encouraging critical thought, providing prenatal and parenting education, and partnering with community services we support diploma-driven parents and kindergarten ready children as they establish the groundwork for lifelong learning.

Vision

Every teen parent will be prepared for post-secondary education and employment. Every child will be ready for kindergarten.

Newsletter

The Longfellow Kangaroo is a student-managed and student-written newspaper that publishes articles relevant and entertaining to Longfellow High School’s student population, neighborhood, and community.  Any student may participate in the production of the paper by taking the class as an English or English elective, or by working for the paper as an extra-curricular activity.  Writing for The Longfellow Kangaroo looks very good on college applications and is an excellent way to explore a career in journalism.
