My family!
My family in fall 2017
Hi, I'm Lauren Tolbert!  I'm thrilled to be a part of Longfellow HS and the unique, project based learning that we all participate in!
Prior to becoming a science teacher, I worked for seven years as a chemist, so I am used to taking a hands-on approach to problem-solving. Even something as simple as a walk outdoors can unlock a lot of questions and learning opportunities.  Scientific understanding and critical thinking are valued skills in today's workplace, I enjoy helping students gain those skills and build confidence in their scientific ability. As parents, it's exciting to experience the world with our children and relive the amazement that we had as children, that child-like wonder is a great inspiration to our investigations.
A few of the classes I teach:
  • Forensics
  • Hatching Chicks!
  • STEM of the Solar System
  • Heredity and Your Family Tree
Some of my favorite student-inspired projects have included:
  • Chemistry and Safety of Make-up
  • Impacts of Ocean Acidification
  • Comparative Embryology
  • Making Maple Syrup
In my spare time I love being outdoors with my family: gardening, camping, biking, swimming, hiking, and above all: traveling. I also enjoy the Twin Cities thriving music scene, spicy food, and cheering for the Vikings! (even though my husband is Packers fan...)
